Issue: August, 2009
Efforts to create community and provide outstanding resources for the Second Life community continue at Karuna. This month we:
- Prepare a machinima documenting the first step of a new Quest entitled, "Stories Without Borders: Tapping the healing power of Story Quests." The machinima and the first step of this Quest will be presented at the Second Life Community Conference in San Francisco from August 12 through the 16th. The Quest focuses on debunking myths and fears about HIV/AIDS, while immersing particpants in the life of a person who had HIV/AIDS. Following the SLCC the Quest will be open to all SL residents. Stay tuned for details on how to experience the Quest yourself!
- Welcome Special Jewell as our Artist of the Month. Special has a way of capturing moods and messsages in her photos that will amaze you. Stop by the rooftop garden of the Community Center or see the Path of Healing to see her work.
- Proudly present our new Welcome Area with its Hand of Life and Wall of Gratitude. The Hand of Life (built by the talented sculptor Christian Sandell), is set in a small bay and flanked by water jets near the Karuna landing area. The hand holds a spinning colored pebble between two of its fingers. Touch the pebble for the latest news about Karuna. Visit the sign boards that flank the water to get a self-guided tour, information on how to become a Karuna volunteer, and sample stories and poems from the Garden of Experience.
The Wall of Gratitude honors those who have helped shape and made significant contributions to Karuna. Stop by to see Karuna's movers and shakers ;-)
- Are delighted to present the new Karuna logo, featuring a tree of life. You can see the logo at the Karuna welcome area, or on the new Karuna web site: www.karunahiv.com. If you have any comments or suggestions about the Web site, we would be happy to hear them. Please email Jenaia Morane at Jenaia@karunahiv.com
- Continue our weekly hour of live music on Wednesdays at Karuan's Cafe Ristretto starting at 6:00 pm SLT. These events feature some of Second Life's most talented live musicians and DJs. We've been dancing and singing up a storm while raising awareness about HIV/AIDS. Look for announcements in the librarian groups and the Alliance Forum. Cafe Ristrettto is located at the back of Karuna's Community Center. IM Jenaia Morane if you have questions.
- Continue to offer live Consumer Health Librarian help three days a week at Karuna's Resource Center. For hours and days, please contact Robin Mochi or check out the Karuna calendar at: http://www.karunahiv.com/calendar.html
